[Session 1 of the Series: Art & the Archetype: A Deep Dive into the Collective Unconscious for Writers, Artists, and Artists of Life.] Renowned psychologist C. G. Jung theorized that the unconscious was not just a repository for unrecognized or repressed personal experience but, at its deepest layers, a cosmic ocean brimming with archetypal energies that influence all humans. When tapped consciously, these energies can infuse our lives and our work with enormous creative potential. In this talk, mythologist Kathie Collins will provide an overview of Jung’s theory of the archetypes of the collective unconscious and discuss some of the ways artists and writers successfully use archetypal symbols and situations in their creative work. You’ll leave with a better understanding of the depths—inside your favorite works of art and inside yourself.
