Shapeshifting: Adapting the Novella for Screen

March 12, 2019 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

- $15 – $20

What is the creative process by which a novel or novella is transformed for the screen? What accommodations, or even sacrifices, must a filmmaker make in order to remain faithful to the author’s original conception of the story? In this talk, UNC Charlotte Film Studies instructor Sam Shapiro will present Katherine Anne Porter’s Noon Wine, screening one of two existing adaptations and discussing how this story resonated with the author on both the deeply personal and imaginative levels.
