Through the Voice of Another: Taking on the Persona Poem

February 16, 2019 @ 10:00 am - 1:00 pm

- $55 – $65

In one sense, poets always take on a second self in the creation of a poem––a mask that allows them to intensely explore a particular aspect of their own experience. Sometimes, however, we choose to wear the mask of another person (an historical figure, movie star, or the girl next door) or an animal, god, or fantasy figure as a method for seeing and engaging with the world in a different way. In this class, we’ll read and discuss examples of persona poetry and practice taking on various personas, masks that allow us to say things we didn’t even know we knew.
