NEW! Writers/South: Press + Journal + Awards

Writers/South Press

Welcome to Charlotte Lit’s new Writers/South Press. The press’ mission is to showcase exceptional writing – poetry, fiction, and nonfiction – from current and past residents of the American South. Learn about our initiatives below.

Our debut initiative is the annual Charlotte Lit Writers/South Awards, with $10,000 in prizes in poetry, fiction, nonfiction, and flash, with all winners and honorable mentions published in Writers/South: Journal of Charlotte Lit in the spring.

Submissions for the first contest and issue will be welcomed from current or past residents of North Carolina and its four border states, Georgia, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia. Our judges are Ron Rash (fiction), Jessica Jacobs and Nickole Brown (poetry), Stephanie Elizondo Griest (creative nonfiction), and Tara Campbell (flash).

The contest is open September 1 – December 1. Winners will be announced on March 1, 2022 and the journal will be published on May 1, 2022. More details can be found on our contest page.

Writers/South: Journal of Charlotte Lit will debut in spring 2022, featuring all honored writers from the first Writers/South Awards, as well as contributions from our judges: Ron Rash, Jessica Jacobs, Nickole Brown, Stephanie Elizondo Griest, and Tara Campbell.
